Garnish your serving platters with roses made from apple peels or strawberries. A small sharp knife is the only tool you need to make these garnishes. Instructions

  1. Apple Peel Rose

    • 1

Peel the apple making one long, narrow strip of peel. Cut a strip 6 inches long from the end of the strip which was on the top of the apple. Shape this piece into a flat circle on the serving plate with the peel side down and set aside.

    • 2

Tightly coil the rest of the strip with the peel side out, starting from the uncut end. The shorter side of the strip should be at the top of the coil.

    • 3

Place the coil in the center of the circle of peel you had set aside. Slightly spread the petals out on the coiled apple to create the appearance of a rose.

    Strawberry Rose

    • 4

Hold the strawberry with the point up. Starting one-third the way down the strawberry, cut a 1/8-inch thick flap on each of the four sides of the berry. Cut almost to the stem then stop on each flap. Fold the petals out with your knife as you cut them, but leave them attached to the strawberry.

    • 5

A bit higher, or closer to the tip of the berry, cut another series of four petals around the berry. Cut these petals between the petals of the first row. Again fold the petals out with your knife as you cut them, leaving them attached to the berry.

    • 6

Cut a final row of petals above and between the petals of the second row. Fold these petals out slightly. Leave the top point of the strawberry uncut.
