Even though you may run your vacuum cleaner over the carpet, you will still find dog hair. The best way to remove dog hair from the carpet is with a vacuum cleaner; however, there are specific methods that must be used when vacuuming dog hair from the carpet to ensure that you suck up as much as possible. Things You'll Need

  • Rubber gloves
  • Empty spray bottle
  • 3/4 cup of warm water
  • 1/4 cup of fabric softener
  • Vacuum cleaner with brush attachment

      Put on a pair of rubber gloves. Run your gloved hands back and forth over the carpet while applying some pressure. The rubber will loosen the dog hair stuck deep in the carpets fibers.

      Fill an empty spray bottle with 3/4 cup of warm water. Add 1/4 cup of fabric softener and spray a light misting of the mixture all over the carpet. This mixture will help the dog hair not to cling to the carpeting.

      Let the carpet completely dry from the fabric softener. Vacuum the carpeting vigorously with a brush attachment rather than with the actual vacuum cleaner for better suction and loosening of the dog hair. Go over the carpet at least twice with the brush attachment.

Tips & Warnings

  • Dampen a sponge and rub it over the carpet for another way to clean dog hair. Masking tape wrapped around your hand is a way to quickly remove small amounts of dog hair from your carpet.
