How to Create Zip Files Online

Zip files are files that have been compressed in order to make them take up less memory on your computer. Compressing files by making them into zip files is one way of making it easier to send those files to another person via email, or to make those files easily downloadable from a website. Computers with Microsoft Windows as an operating system can create zip files without the need of special software, but for those who don’t have that, there are some websites that allow you to create zip files online for free.

Instructions

      Go to the FileStomp website and click “Choose File.”

      Browse through your computer and select the file you are looking to make into a Zip file. Click on the file and then click “Open.” Repeat this step as you need to zip at least two files together.

      Click “Zip it!”

      Copy the URL code that appears on the screen and paste it to the “Address” bar on the top of your web browser, then click “Go.”

      Copy the URL code that appears in the new webpage (will end in .zip) and paste it to an email, if you are sending the zip files to someone. If you want to save the zip files to your computer, paste it as you pasted the first URL code and your computer will begin to download the zip file you created

    NippyZip

      Go to the NippyZip website and click “Choose File.”

      Click on the check box next to “Send ZIP to email?” if you want to send the zip file to an email, then fill out the email form including the email you want to send the zip file to, your name, your email address, and a message. If you don’t want to send an email, skip this step entirely.

      Write the code number given to you on the screen into the box labeled “Write above number here:.”

      Click on “Click here to download file” to download the zip file you created. If you’ve send the zip file as an email and don’t want to download the zip file to your own computer, skip this step.

    Gmail

      Go to the Google website and log into your Gmail account. If you don’t already have one, you can get one for free.

      Click “Compose Mail” on the left side of the screen.

      Click “Attach a file” to attach the files you are looking to make into zip files.

      Browse through your computer and select the file you want to make into a zip file then click “Open.” Repeat until all the files you want to make into zip files have been attached.

      Type in the recipients for the zip files you are creating into the “To:” bar on the top of the screen. If you aren’t sending the files to anyone but only want to create them for yourself, then type in your own email address.

      Click on the email you sent yourself, if you sent the email to yourself, and click “Download all attachments.” All the attachments will be downloaded to your computer as a zip file.
