How to Clean a Cement Basement Floor
Many basements are floored with cement, since water leaks and sewage backups can occur in basements. Wash machines and dryers are usually placed in home basements, along with junk and other miscellaneous objects in storage. Basement floors often undergo heavy foot traffic, causing the cement to become soiled with dirt, dust and debris. Regularly cleaning a cement basement floor will improve the appearance of the basement, remove unsightly stains and cause the basement to smell fresher. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Sweep the cement floor with a broom to remove accumulated dust, dirt and debris. Vacuum the floor with a vacuum cleaner to suck up remaining dirt and debris you missed while sweeping with the broom.
-
2
Make a solution of 1 gallon of water and 1 cup of bleach in a cleaning bucket. The bleach solution will kill any bacteria on the cement floor.
-
-
3
Open all of the windows in the basement, to ensure the area is well ventilated. Exposure to high concentrations of bleach is dangerous to your health.
-
4
Dampen a mop in the bleach solution. Lightly mop the entire cement floor with the bleach solution, without soaking the floor.
-
5
Allow the cement floor to air dry. Inspect the floor for remaining dirt, debris, or stains. Repeat the steps, if necessary.
