How to Make a Corner Cupboard
Corner cabinets serve many functions other than making use of extra space in corners. Our ancestors used them to extend storage areas in kitchens. Knowing the use of the corner cabinet will help determine the dimensions. Will it be used for storing and exhibiting collectibles, to house your computer or flat screen television or for dishes? Will it be used as a pantry? Will it be put in a bathroom, bedroom, den or office? The use will also determine the number of shelves you need, its height and whether it will have doors. Things You'll Need
- Pencil
- Ruler
- Level
- Clamps
- Drill
- Hammer
- Sander
- Tack cloths
- Professional grade wood glue
- Finishing nails
- Wood screws 2 1/2 inch
- Stain
- Masking tape to label pieces
- 2 pieces plywood for right and left back 39 inches by 66 inches
- 2 pieces plywood for side panels 10 inches by 66 inches
- 2 pieces plywood for top and bottom panels measuring 38 1/4 inches by38 1/4 inches
- 1 piece of plywood for shelf 34 inches by 34 inches
- L brackets to attach shelves
- 2 decorative moldings for framing edges of sides 66 inches long
- 1 decorative moldings for framing edges of shelves 51 ½ inches long
- 2 decorative moldings for framing rails 37 1/2 inches long
- 1 decorative molding for top rail 5 feet long

How to Make a Corner Cabinet

Have the building supply store cut the pieces for you. Sand all pieces and wipe with tack cloth. Glue and nail right and left panels together. Hold in place with clamps. Let dry overnight.

Glue and nail top and bottoms to right and left panels. Hold in place with clamps and let dry overnight.

Use L brackets and short wood screws to attach shelves. Attach side panels to the front with wood glue and nails. Let dry overnight.

Glue and nail moldings to the top and front of the corner cabinet. Let the glue dry.

Stain the cabinet and attach to the wall with 2 1/2 inch wood screws.

Tips & Warnings
You probably will need someone to help you if the cabinet is heavy and tall.
When pieces are cut at the building supply, label each so you will know which pieces to attach together.
Use clamps to hold your pieces in place while the wood glue dries.
