How to Coordinate Wallpaper and Fabric
Coordinating wallpaper and the fabric to use for furniture upholstery, bedding and window coverings can be challenging for some people. There are different ways to coordinate wallpaper and room fabrics, such as pulling out one color from the wallpaper design and using that as the color-theme in the room. Display samples of the colors in the room to help make your choices, because once you have created the design and theme, you may have to live with it for a while. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Choose the wallpaper first as this is the biggest part of any remodeling project. Cut a 4-inch square of the wallpaper to keep in your purse or wallet.
-
2
Examine the wallpaper and think about its qualities. Choose a small print or solid color fabric if the wallpaper is really busy. Choose stripes or larger prints if the wallpaper is subtle.
-
-
3
Go the to fabric or upholstery store-- take the wallpaper sample with you. Walk around the store, get a feel for what it available, and make a mental note of anything that pops out at you. Hold the wallpaper up to any of those fabrics and see what you think, but do not make a decision yet.
-
4
Pick one of the more prominent colors out of the wallpaper design. Find the fabrics in that color and hold up your wallpaper sample to see which ones look good. Try fabrics that may not necessarily stand out to you, as they may be the ones that look perfect up against your wallpaper.
-
5
Ask the store employee if there are coordinating fabrics for your particular brand of wallpaper as many manufacturers work together to create beautiful fabrics just for the purpose of coordinating with your particular wallpaper.
-
6
Look for opposites. Look for lighter colored fabrics if your wallpaper is dark. Look for dark fabrics if your wallpaper is light colored.
-
7
Stick with only three different patterns between the wallpaper and the fabrics. Use florals, stripes and solids, for example, but make sure the colors all coordinate and the same colors repeat in all three of the patterns.
-
8
Choose the fabrics that you think look best with your wallpaper.

Tips & Warnings
Many fabric and upholstery stores sort their fabric by color, which makes it a little easier for you when looking for that specific color to coordinate with the wallpaper.
If you are short on time for browsing through the decorator fabrics at the store, many stores allow you to take home their fabric books. These are books filled with squares of decorator fabrics and you can leisurely browse through them, comparing colors and prints.
Keep in mind it is your home you are decorating and you are the one who needs to like it the best, however, get a second opinion from a friend whose decorator style is similar to yours and whose opinion you trust.
