Make a single crochet stitch in the second chain from the hook and in each chain across. Check the width of your work. If you want the scarf to be wider, unravel your work and add more chains to your starting chain stitches; if you want the scarf to be narrower, unravel and start with fewer chain stitches.

Make a slip stitch to finish off your work. Cut your working yarn and use a large eye blunt needle to weave in the ends.

Add fringe to the ends of your scarf, if desired. Cut 40 strips of yarn, each 6 inches long. Hold two yarn lengths together and bend them in half, then use your crochet hook to pull that bent portion through the end stitches of your scarf. Pull the ends of the yarn lengths through the center loop to tighten the fringe. Repeat across one short end of the scarf and then the other. Use 20 lengths of yarn on each end.
