How to Set the Path for Windows XP Java

How to Set the Path for Windows XP Java thumbnail
Add the Java environment path.

The Java path environment variable is added to Windows, so the operating system can find your Java compiler files. Environment variables in Windows allow the operating system to automatically search directories for the required executable components to run software. Adding the Java path to these variables lets you test your Java code on the Windows machine. Add the Java path in your system properties window.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the "Start" button in the Windows taskbar. Select "Control Panel." Double-click the "System" icon to open your system properties window. Click the "Advanced" tab.

    • 2

Click the "Environment Variables" button in the section labeled "System Variables." Click the "Path" environment variable to open its properties.

    • 3

Add your Java directory path to the environment variable list. For instance, if your compiler code is located in "c:\java," add this directory (including the drive letter) to the path variables.

    • 4

Click "OK" to save your settings. Reboot your machine to load the new settings. Environment variables are loaded when you boot the machine.
