How to Boil a Glass Bowl

Glass pipes, often referred to as glass bowls, are often used for smoking tobacco and other plants. With regular use, a thick, sticky resin forms inside of the bowl that can slow down or completely stop the air flow. The resin is difficult to remove due to the tiny air flow holes and curves that are typically found on these types of pipes. An easy way to take remove the resin is to boil the bowl in water.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill a small saucepan with water.

    • 2

Put the glass bowl in the saucepan. Make sure the water level is at least 1 inch higher than the bowl. Add more water if necessary.

    • 3

Put the saucepan on the stove and bring it to a boil at medium-high heat.

    • 4

Turn the heat off after the water boils for five minutes. Remove the bowl with a pair of tongs immediately.

    • 5

Hold the bowl under hot running water. Make sure the water falls into the bowl and flows out the mouth piece. This will wash away any residual resin that didn't come out in the saucepan.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not run cold water over the bowl after it comes out of the hot water, as it may cause the glass to shatter.
