Decorating an Asian-Style Bedroom
An Asian-style bedroom is a decorative theme that is simple to achieve and makes a bold statement. Asian style is characterized by bold colors such as red, gold and black, and rooms that are decorated in Asian style are usually warm and inviting. One of the keys to effective Asian decorating is to use a minimalist style. It takes only a few decorative objects to send the message that the room is decorated in Asian style. Things You'll Need
- Tarp
- Red, brown, gray or tan paint
- Paintbrush
- Bamboo or black furniture
- Bamboo window shades
- Bamboo plant or bonsai tree
- Asian-inspired bedding
- Chinese character accents (pictures, pillows, swords, decorative objects)
- Elephant or Buddha figurine
- Small birdcage

Remove all items from the room. Cover the floor with a tarp. Determine what color to make your main color, and what color to use as an accent color. One way to characterize the Asian style in paint is to paint all walls but one in a rich tan color. Paint one wall red for an accent color. You could also use a combination of brown and gray. Allow paint to dry.

Bring the furniture back in the room. If possible, use a black bed and nightstands. Any other furniture in the room should also be black or bamboo-colored.

Hang bamboo shades from the windows. This gives the room a more authentic feel than curtains.

Place bamboo plants or bonsai trees around the room as decorative greenery. Plants are a large part of Asian decorating. Bamboo is considered a lucky plant, so every Asian bedroom should have at least one stalk of real bamboo.

Cover the bed in an Asian-print comforter or quilt. Much of Asian-inspired bedding has bamboo or Chinese characters as the print.

Decorate the walls with pictures of Chinese letters or pictures of elephants or other Asian cultural images. You can also hang traditional Asian scrolls filled with pictures or letters on the walls. If desired, hang an Asian sword on a wall as well.

Place Asian-inspired figurines around the room. Elephants and Buddha statues are common decorations in Asian-themed rooms. Place Chinese lanterns on tables or surfaces, or even place a cricket cage or small birdcage onto a table.

Add accent pillows to the bed in red, gold, brown or black. You can also use pillows that have Asian images printed onto the fabric.
