How to Become a Registered Nurse Fast
Many people don't have the time or resources to spend years in college working toward a degree program. Family commitments and finances are just a few of the reasons why someone would need the fastest route possible to becoming a registered nurse. Thankfully, there are programs which speed up the process to becoming a registered nurse. If you already have a BA in another field you have the option of attending an accelerated registered nurse program. If that isn't feasible, you can take the Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) route. Either of these options are the quickest route to becoming a registered nurse.

1
Investigate and get in contact with accelerated baccalaureate nursing programs if you already hold a BA (see Resources). An accelerated program takes between 11 to 18 months to complete.
-
2
Make an appointment to talk with a nursing advisor at a community college or two you would be interested in attending if you decide to do an ADN program. The nursing adviser will go over the steps, prerequisite courses and requirements to apply for their ADN program. Most ADN programs take two years to complete. The Nurse Groups website has a list of all the ADN programs in each state in the United States (see Resources).

Start taking the required prerequisite courses as soon as possible. The sooner you complete the prerequisites, the sooner you can apply for the ADN program. Most colleges require many of the same courses, which include English Composition, Introduction to Psychology, Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Anatomy & Physiology, and Microbiology.

Apply for the program or programs you are interested in and enroll in the one of your choice that you are accepted in.
