How to Clean the Bottom of a Pool thumbnail
Brush pool sides and bottom weekly to prevent the growth of algae.

A dirty pool floor can be dangerously slippery, making walking or even standing upright in the water near impossible. Before cleaning the pool at the start of the swimming season, test the pH and alkalinity levels of the water with a self tester pool kit or take a water sample to a pool supply store for evaluation. Once your water levels are in balance, you are ready to clean the bottom of your pool. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Attach the pool brush to the telescopic pole. Standing inside or outside of the pool, begin brushing at the center, overlapping the strokes. If your pool has a shallow and deep end, begin brushing at the shallow end working toward the deep end.

    • 2

Circle the pool toward its main drain with the brush, coaxing most of the dirt to be swept into the filter.

    • 3

Connect the vacuum attachment to the telescopic pole and vacuum the entire floor of the pool to remove the slippery debris, paying close attention to corners.

    • 4

Clean the pool filter after vacuuming.

Tips & Warnings

  • Vacuum weekly to help keep slippery slime from building on pool floor.

  • Do not use wire bristle brushes on vinyl-lined or painted fiberglass pool floors.
