How to Lock a Windows XP Screen
Whether your computer is in a busy household or a busy office, it is important to protect your personal information. From online banking to proprietary corporate information, there is a great deal of information stored on the average computer--and failing to lock your screen when you walk away puts that information at risk. Fortunately it is easy to protect yourself and your personal information by simply locking your Windows screen.

Hold down "Ctrl-Alt-Delete" at the same time. This will bring up a list of options, including the option to lock your computer.

Click the "Lock Computer" button. This will lock your computer, and you will need to enter your password to unlock it.

Hold down "Ctrl-Alt-Delete" at the same time, then type your password to unlock your computer. Click "Start" and choose "Control Panel" from the list.

Double-click the "Display" setting and go to the "Screen Saver" tab. Check the "On resume password protect" box and type the number of minutes to wait until the screen saver goes on. This will automatically lock your computer after a period of inactivity, although it is still a good practice to lock your computer manually every time you walk away from it.

Locate the Windows logo key on your keyboard. This key is located near the space bar, between the "Ctrl" and "Alt" keys.

Hold the Windows logo key down and press the "L" key. This will lock your computer.

Click and hold "Ctrl-Alt-Delete" to unlock your computer. Type your password if you have one assigned, otherwise just hit the "Enter" key to log back into your computer.
