How to Make a Loop Knot

A loop knot is often referred to as an Angler's loop because fishermen use it to tie knots in their lines. The knot creates a fixed loop that doesn't release easily. Any material holds a loop knot. Its one of the few knots that holds well in a bungee cord, so it is good for climbing as well. Creating a loop knot is simple, and learning it is a useful skill that may be used in a variety of situations.

Instructions

    • 1

Form a loop in the center of the rope with the ends facing down. Cross the end of the rope you have in your right hand, behind the end of the rope in your left hand.

    • 2

Hold the loop together with your left fingers. Pass the right end of the rope through the loop. Pull it to form a loose knot.

    • 3

Tuck the end of the rope in your right hand through the back side of the loop, and grasp the end with your left hand. Don't pull the rope all the way through; leave another loop.

    • 4

Wrap the working end of the rope behind the stationary end.

    • 5

Find the two ropes running inside the center of the knot you formed in Step 2. Pinch these together and lift them slightly with your left hand.

    • 6

Pass the end of the working rope underneath the two ropes held in your left hand. Pull the knot tight to finish it securely.
