How to Start a Career as an Ultrasound Technologist
Ultrasound technologists, also referred to as ultrasonographers or sonographers, are diagnostic imaging professionals who use sound waves generated by ultrasound machines to capture images of internal structures. Colleges and universities offer ultrasound technology training as two- and four-year programs. After completing an accredited program, a graduate becomes certified by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) after completing the required examination. A career as an ultrasound technologist works well for those who enjoy hands-on patient care. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, an ultrasound tech earns between $52,570 and $73,680 per year.
