How to Restore Dull Car Paint
It's only natural that your car paint dulls over time. When you notice that glossy luster gone from your car, spend a couple of hours on a warm afternoon restoring the dull car paint. Samarins notes that wax gives your car a natural shine and helps protect the car paint from the elements, slowing down rust corrosion by creating a barrier against water. Before you wax, you need to wash your car.
Instructions

Washing
-
1
Spray your car with water from a hose to wet it.
-
2
Prepare a soapy solution by mixing water and car soap in a bucket. Dip a tack cloth into the solution. Wash your car with the soapy solution, working from top to bottom. Re-wet the tack cloth in the soapy solution when you need more soap. Take care as you approach the bottom of the car: if the tack cloth gets dust and dirt, discard it and use another one. Re-using a dirty tack cloth to wash the car drags dirt specks across the paint finish.

3
Rinse away the soap until the water runs clear.
-
4
Dry the car by hand with a tack cloth. If it's a sunny, warm day, you can allow the car to air dry.
Waxing
-
5
Tape off areas that you don't want waxed with masking tape. If the wax touches rubber, black plastic or trim it will leave white marks. If you don't tape them now, you'll have to wax around the area or have to clean off wax residue later.
-
6
Shake your bottle of liquid wax, then squirt a quarter-sized amount onto a damp sponge.
-
7
Spread the wax back and forth across one panel of your car, such as the hood or the roof. Make an even layer of wax by applying the product in long strokes. Once you've waxed a panel, wait a couple of minutes until you see the product haze or cloud over.
-
8
Wipe off the hazed wax using a clean tack cloth. The harder you wipe, the more luster the car panel develops.
-
9
Wax every panel of the car in this manner to restore the shine to that dull car paint.
