Instructions for Making Crochet Hair Scrunchies
Buying new hair accessories to match every outfit can be very expensive. If you have moderate crochet skills, you can solve this problem by crocheting hair scrunchies. Use any type of yarn you have on hand and you can crochet several hair scrunchies in an afternoon. Make them large or small. Add buttons or other embellishments when you complete the crocheting to put a polished, finishing touch on your crocheted hair scrunchies.
Things You'll Need

1
Use a traditional hair elastic as the base for your crocheted hair scrunchie. If you do not have a hair elastic, stitch a small strip of regular sewing elastic into a circular shape.
-
2
Use your crochet hook to make a slip stitch to attach your yarn to the hair elastic. Make single crochets around the hair elastic. To do this, put the hook under the elastic and yarn over; when you yarn over again, do so over the hair elastic and draw through your loops to finish the stitch. Continue making single crochets until you cannot fit any more stitches on the elastic, then join the last stitch with the first one using a slip stitch. The reason for making so many stitches is so that when you stretch out the hair elastic, your crocheted work will stretch also.

Chain three, which counts as your first double crochet stitch. Make a double crochet in the same stitch as the base of your turning chain, then make two double crochets in every stitch around. Join with a slip stitch to the top of your initial three chain stitches.

4
Chain one and make two single crochet stitches in every stitch around. Join with a slip stitch and fasten off.
-
5
Use a large eye blunt needle to weave in any loose ends. Your hair scrunchie should be able to stretch around your ponytail now, just as a traditional one would.
