How to Cover a Couch With a Sheet

Learn how to cover a couch with a sheet.

You can usually tell that a couch is nearing its expiration date based on how worn it looks. A couch's lifespan depends on a number of factors, including how many people sit on it daily and the neatness or messiness of your household members. If your old couch has sentimental value, you might reupholster it to bring it back to its original look. But if you're looking for a quick and cheap way to cover up a worn-down couch, you can simply cover it with a standard bed sheet.

    Instructions

    Things You'll Need

    • Queen or king-sized sheet
    • Fasteners or pins
      • 1

Shake the sheet out thoroughly to remove folds and hold it lengthwise (longest side runs horizontally in front of you).

      • 2

Stand in front of the couch. Drape the top of the sheet over the top of the couch. Go behind the couch and pull the back down slightly until it covers about 2 inches of the back of the couch. Secure the back in place with pins or the fasteners that you would use to secure an Ace bandage.

      • 3

Secure the sheet with those fasteners on the sides of the two arms of the couch.

      • 4

Run your fingers down the front part of the couch and start tucking the sheet into the crevices. Tuck the sheet in the area between the bottom and back cushions of the couch, as well as the area between the bottom cushions and arms.

      • 5

Lift the cushions and tuck the sheet under them slightly. Allow the rest to hang over the bottom of the couch. You can also just insert the remaining cloth under the cushions completely if you prefer.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Use a bed sheet that complements the décor of your room. Keep in mind that much like the upholstery, this sheet will become worn and dirty over time, depending on how often people sit down. So you might want to avoid bright or white colors that will show imperfections. Consider using a sheet that has an attractive pattern that looks appropriate in your room.

    • If the back of the couch is not up against the back of your wall, you may want to attach another small twin-size sheet to the back with your fasteners.
