How to Make Transparent GIFs in Paint
GIF, or Graphics Interchange Format, is a widely-used file format for graphics and logos. You can embed transparent GIFs on your webpage or use them as a business logo on your presentations. Transparent GIFs may also serve as watermarks or copyright logos on documents, presentations or images. Using Microsoft Paint, you can choose any GIF image and make it transparent.

Launch Microsoft Paint from your "Start" menu.

Click on "File" and select "Open..." Browse to locate the GIF image you want to turn transparent. Hit "Open." This will bring the GIF image on the main area.

Click on the "Free-Form Select" icon on the left pane. It should be the very first icon on the toolbar to your left. Point your mouse over the icon to confirm it is the free-form select tool.

Click and drag your mouse along the borders of your GIF image. This will select the entire image with blue dotted lines. This will activate an icon for "Transparent Background" at the very bottom of the toolbar to your left. Once again, roll your mouse over the icon to confirm it is the transparent background icon.

Click on the icon for "Transparent Background." Inspect the image and upon satisfaction, click on "File" and select "Save As..." Type a new file name, select a secured location on your hard drive and make sure to choose "Graphics Interchange Format (.gif)" under "Save as Type." Hit "Save" to end the task.
