Count characters in Open Office document

Similar to other word processors, the Open Office word processing program comes with its own "Word Count" tool. This tool can be extremely useful if you have to write a report or article that has to remain within a certain amount of words. If you are writing a piece for a website or different Internet post, such as a "Tweet," you may have to count the amount of characters that are in a particular Open Office document.

Instructions

    • 1

      Open Open Office.

    • 2

Click "File." Select "Open." The "Open" window appears.

    • 3

Select the Open Office document with the characters you wish to count inside the "Open" window. Click "Open." The document appears.

    • 4

      Click "Tools." A menu opens.

    • 5

Choose "Word Count." A window opens.

    • 6

Read the number next to the "Characters" heading. This is the amount of characters in that particular Open Office document.
