How to Fix a Gateway Laptop Resource Conflict PCI on a Motherboard

PCI cards on your Gateway laptop are assigned IRQ numbers by the computer, allowing the computer's processor to know which device is sending a request for information. Resolving conflicts is necessary where the computer mistakenly assigns the same IRQ number to multiple devices, leaving the Gateway laptop confused as to the source of any potential processing job. Resolve this by manually changing the IRQ number in the operating system.

Instructions

1. Click "Start" and click "Control Panel."

2. Select the "Device Manager."

3. Click "View" and select "Resources by Type."

4. Double click "IRQ" and right click one of the devices having the same IRQ number. Click "Properties."

5. Click "Resources," uncheck "Use Automatic Settings" and select a new IRQ number from the drop-down menu.

6. Press "OK" and restart your Gateway laptop.
