How to Measure a Refrigerator
As you contemplate a new refrigerator for a kitchen space, plan carefully to ensure that the refrigerator fits properly into your available space. According to Best Buy, the most prevalent reason for refrigerator returns is the inability to fit the new refrigerator into the existing space. Additionally, don't forget to consider doorways the refrigerator must pass through as well as clearance on the side for the door swing and clearance in the back to allow waterline installation. Measure a refrigerator and know the dimensions of the space in which you will install it for a successful installation job. Does this Spark an idea?

Place the end of the tape measure at the outermost back point of the refrigerator. Look carefully at the back of the refrigerator to determine the outermost point; the edge of the cabinet is likely not the outermost point because there will be coils and other mechanics protruding from the back of the refrigerator. Pull the tape measure straight out toward the front of the refrigerator, noting the point on the tape measure where the refrigerator stops. Write this measurement down on the paper as the depth measurement.

Tips & Warnings
According to Best Buy, allow at least 2 inches of extra width in your refrigerator space to allow for door swing and 2 inches of extra depth for waterline access in the back.
Measure the installation space, noting the height, width and depth measurements carefully. Compare the space dimensions with the refrigerator dimensions, adding the extra space, to ensure a properly fitting refrigerator.
A new refrigerator should have dimensions clearly labeled to enable you to make sure it will fit your space.
