How to Get NTBackup to Use Multiple DVD Disks in Windows XP

The NTBackup utility in the Windows XP operating system enables you to create a complete compressed backup of any and all information stored on your computer. Storing your backup files across multiple DVD discs is necessary where the amount of information on the computer's hard drive precludes the possibility of attaining a full backup on a single optical disc.

      Click "Start," "Programs," "Accessories," "System Tools" and click "Backup."

      Select "Back up files and folders."

      Click "Let me choose what to back up."

      Check the boxes next to roughly half of the files/folders on your hard drive.

      Select the desktop as the location to store your backup and click "Finish."

      Repeat the procedure but check the boxes next to the remaining files that were not stored on the first backup. This will split the load, enabling you to store your backups on multiple DVDs.

      Insert a blank DVD into the computer. Open your DVD burning program, select Data Disc and add the first backup file to the queue. Press "Burn." Repeat the procedure with the second disc to create your backups across multiple DVDs.
