How to Clean Pre-Finished Wood Floors
Pre-finished wood floors are ready to use right after installation. Manufacturers apply the finish to the wood floors to protect them from damage. You will need to clean pre-finished wood floors often to remove dirt and other debris that can scratch or damage the floor. Sweep or vacuum your floors to remove loose dirt, dust and debris. If you use a vacuum cleaner, use a soft brush attachment or set the vacuum cleaner on the hard-floor setting. The vacuum cleaner should also have rubber wheels that won't damage the floor.

Fill a bucket with 1 gallon of warm water. Add a few drops of mild dish soap. Use your hands to mix up the soap and water.

Dip a mop into the bucket of cleaning solution. Wring out the mop very well.

Run the mop over the floor, overlapping your strokes to ensure that no part of the floor is missed. Work in sections about 2 to 3 feet wide and the entire length of the floor so that the moisture does not dry onto the floor.

Wipe a soft rag across each section of the floor promptly after mopping to remove any moisture.

Tips & Warnings
If your pre-finished hardwood floors are extremely dirty, add 1/4 cup white vinegar to the bucket of soapy water to mop the floors. Make sure to dry each section of the floor well.
Change the bucket of cleaning solution as it becomes dirty.
Do not use excessive amounts of water on pre-finished wood floors, or you risk damaging the finish and the wood.
