How to Paint an Old Logo on an Automobile

How to Paint an Old Logo on an Automobile thumbnail
Painting old logos restores the original look of your automobile.

Over time, the original logos on automobiles endure harsh weather conditions, rock chips and other factors that wear away the paint. You can buy replacement logos for some classic automobiles, but they will not look exactly like the original logos. If the car's logos are still in relatively good shape, except for the paint, remove and repaint the badges to make them look like new. You will preserve the original look of the automobile in the process, and save the money you would have spent on new logos.

Instructions

    • 1

Heat up the car's logo with a hair dryer until it easily comes off the car's body.

    • 2

Take the logo to be painted to a hobby store. Look for model paints that match the original colors on the logo.

    • 3

Remove any loose pieces of paint with your fingernails. If you have trouble removing loose pieces of paint, apply paint stripper to loosen them.

    • 4

Rub the entire surface of the logo with paint thinner, then wipe the paint thinner off with a fresh cloth. Let the logo dry, then wash it clean with soap and hot water. Dry the logo with a towel.

    • 5

Dip the paintbrush into the paint, then let it drip tiny drops onto the logo. If the paint is not thin enough for it to drip from the tip of the brush, add paint thinner until it does.
