How to Fix Computer Video Problems

A computer is a great medium to watch videos. You can either play DVDs on your CD/DVD-ROM drive or watch online videos. You may face issues with video play from time to time. Your video may freeze suddenly or stop loading. You may also notice that your online video keeps buffering for a long time. In other words, your videos may stop temporarily until the video data is received at the same rate at which it can be processed. You can troubleshoot these issues.

      Check your Internet connection if you are having problems while watching online videos. Consider upgrading your Internet connection if your online videos keep buffering. Restart your modem to boost Internet speed.

      Update your default media player. Launch Windows Media Player from the Start menu. Click on the "Help" tab on the top menu and select "Check for Updates."

      Reinstall your default media player if your media player becomes corrupted. Some of the common symptoms of a corrupt media player include error messages, inability to launch the program and frequent crashes. Navigate to "Control Panel" and double-click on "Add or Remove Programs." Single-click on your media player and select "Change/Remove." Insert the installation CD or navigate to the website for your media player to download a clean version.

      Update the drivers for your display adapter. Click on "Start" and select "Run..." Type "devmgmt.msc" without the quotes and press "Enter." This will launch your Device Manager. Scroll down the list and click on the plus sign next to "Display Adapters." Right-click on your display adapter and select "Update Driver Software."

      Update the video controllers if you use a video/graphics card. Click on the plus sign next to "Sound, video and game controllers" on your Device Manager. Right-click on your video controller and select "Update Driver Software."
