How to Make Money Off of Surveys
You may have been lured in by advertisements promising that you can make hundreds of dollars by filling out surveys to help with market research. Unfortunately, many of these advertisements lead you to purchase a list of the companies that actually pay you to do this. Taking surveys is a legitimate way to make some extra money, but it's unlikely that you can make a lot doing it. Still, if you want to make money off of surveys, you just need to find the right places to do it.

1
Register for paid survey companies. Two legitimate companies are American Consumer Opinion and E-Poll. However, you can search to find many more. To register, you'll have to complete a profile that includes your address, age and other details. This helps the company to decide whether to use you when sending out surveys. For example, one company may only want to poll women in their 30s who live in New York.

2
Check your email regularly. The invitation to complete a survey will come through email. Most surveys allow a limited number of people to answer them, so the sooner you respond to an inquiry, the better chance that you have of getting the survey.

3
Answer the questions honestly. Give honest opinions on the surveys. Read each question thoroughly. Sometimes, the survey will ask a quality control question, such as "Click the word 'bear' from the following list." If you are not paying attention and just clicking randomly, you'll get this wrong.

4
Meet the minimum payout. Some survey companies require you to make a minimum amount of money with them--such as $10--before you can receive a payment. Once you've answered enough surveys, you'll be eligible for payment.

Tips & Warnings
Survey companies do not send surveys regularly. You'll have to apply to several companies if you want to take lots of surveys.
You will not make a lot of money by taking surveys. Scambusters.org tested the survey-taking process and found that you could only earn a few cents per hour by taking surveys.
