How to Find Out Where Bees Are Living
Bees often travel up to a mile from their hive in search of nectar, meaning that tracking every bee you see back to its home is well-nigh impossible---but even small hives on your own property can be hard to find on your own. If you have reason to believe bees reside nearby, however, you're in luck. Whether you're planning on raiding the hive for honey or hiring an apiarist to safely remove the hive without harming the bees, you can enlist the help of the bees themselves and let them lead you to their lair. Watch the bees carefully as the day nears evening. Bees return to their hive at night, which means that if it's located in an accessible place, you'll be able to follow them to their home. As you near the hive, finding the correct location should become even easier---toward nightfall, bees swarm in the immediate vicinity of their hive, making it hard to miss.

As an alternative strategy, attract bees to a certain point. Set out a lure for them, such as a pan of sugar water. Enough bees will congregate, collect the sugar and leave so that you should be able to follow them even during the day.

Wear thick, light-colored clothing, together with a mask and gloves, if you decide to approach the hive yourself. Bees are less disturbed by light colors than they are by darker colors.
