How to Keep Ducks Out of Swimming Pools
Swimming pools require a lot of maintenance and, sometimes, might require some extra work that you didn't expect. Ducks, particularly mallards, may think that your pool or pool cover is a suitable resting place. This usually occurs before you open your pool in the summer. By springtime, the winter has strewn the pool cover with natural debris, making it a suitable spot for some ducks. However, there are things you can do to keep ducks out of your swimming pool. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Check the area around your pool for a nest. If there is a duck nest nearby, understand that it's illegal for you to harm or disturb the nest or the eggs. A nearby nest will make it a little trickier to keep the ducks off your pool.

2
Empty the water from the top of your pool cover and clear it of all debris. Leaves and other tree or plant material make the pool cover more hospitable for ducks. Be sure to empty the water each time it rains.

3
Clap or bang pots together when you see the ducks on your pool cover or in your pool. It may take several attempts before the ducks stop coming back, but be aware that if there's a nest nearby, this tactic probably won't be effective.

4
Place a solar cover or other lightweight cover over your pool when it's not in use to prevent ducks from using it during the summer.
