How to Remove Cactus Stickers
Cactus stickers are more commonly known as spines or needles. The spines may be large and easily visible, or they may be small and thin. The smaller spines are called glochida and are easy to overlook during spine removal. If allowed to remain in the skin, the spines may result in cactus dermatitis. This is a skin condition that may cause itching; irritation; a burning or stabbing sensation; and possible infection or allergic response. It may also result in lesions on the skin that may linger for months.

1
Grasp each large, visible spine firmly with the tweezers. Pull spines out slowly so that bits will not remain in your skin.
-
2
Place a magnifying glass close to your skin. Examine the affected area for remaining smaller spines. Pull these out with the tweezers.

-
3
Apply a thin layer of regular household glue to the affected area if any spines remain. Cover it with gauze and lightly tap the gauze onto the skin, but do not forcefully press it. Allow the glue to dry completely, or about 30 minutes.
-
4
Grasp a corner of the gauze and pull it back gently to peel off the glue. This method, used after removal by tweezers, should remove nearly all of the spines.
-
5
Wash the skin gently with soap and water. Apply an antibacterial ointment followed by a bandage. This may help relieve any lingering pain as well as reduce the possibility of an infection.

Tips & Warnings
If the spines are lodged in a sensitive area, such as the face, see a doctor for removal. Do not try to remove the spines yourself.
See a doctor immediately if you notice possible signs of an infection, such as swollen, red or irritated skin and abnormal discharge.
