How to Increase a Mailbox Quota

As an administrator, you can increase individual mailbox quotas on your Microsoft Exchange server. This is an important provision, since it allows you to grant more mailbox space to users who receive a high amount of email and/or big attachments daily. Using Microsoft's "Exchange Management Console," you can change the size of the mailbox of an individual user.

Instructions

    • 1

Click on the folder "Microsoft Exchange Server" from the Start menu. Select "Exchange Management Console." You will need administrative rights/privileges to access this program.

    • 2

Click "Recipient Configuration" and then select "Mailbox."

    • 3

Locate the mailbox whose quota you wish to change. The name of the mailbox should be the same as the username registered for that mailbox.

    • 4

Right-click on the mailbox and select "Properties." Hit the "Mailbox Settings" tab.

    • 5

Click on "Storage Quotas" and then select "Properties."

    • 6

Click to remove the check mark beside "Use mailbox database defaults."

    • 7

Place a check mark next to "Issue warning at (KB)" and use the space next to it to specify the maximum storage limit in kilobytes (KB) before a warning is issued to the mailbox user. Please note that the range for the mailbox quota is 0 through 2147483647 KB.
