1
Find a facility that is suitable. You will need a place that has enough room to accommodate gymnastics equipment and allows room for the gymnasts to practice. Unless you are able to find a building that was previously used as a gymnastics gym, you will need to make renovations. Be sure your landlord will allow this if you are renting. If you are buying the building, check that the building is zoned for business use.
-
2
Determine the amount of money you will need. To begin, you will need to account for the rent or cost of buying the space, building renovations, gymnastics equipment, costs of advertising, and the money you will need to pay the staff and building maintenance personnel.
-
-
3
Obtain the necessary permits. You will need them to make building renovations as well as to open the business.
-
4
Secure the funds you need to open the gym. You can accomplish this by collecting donations from people in the community through fundraisers or by obtaining a loan from a bank.
-
5
Meet with an insurance agent to discuss your insurance options for the building, students and staff, and purchase insurance that fits your needs.
-
6
Hire a contractor and make the necessary building renovations. These renovations may include removing walls to provide you with a large enough space for the gymnasts to practice. You will also need to install adequate flooring, such as spring flooring, for gymnastics routines if the building is not already equipped with such floors. When all renovations have been completed, you can set up the gymnastics equipment.
-
7
Order the necessary equipment and materials you will need. These will include bars, vaults, balance beams, floor pads and a trampoline. Don't forget to order curriculum as well.
-
8
Hire staff for your gym. Former gymnasts will be beneficial in teaching and knowledgeable about gymnastics. Discuss pay and expectations when you interview.
-
9
Sit down with your staff to determine the types of classes they will be able to teach as well as the days and times the classes will be offered. Determine the prices you want to charge for each class. When setting prices, don't forget to factor in how much you will need to pay the person teaching the class.
-
10
Let the community know about your gymnastics gym by having a grand opening where people can tour your gym and meet the coaches.
