How to Make a Tie Fleece Baby Blanket
Easy to make--and no sewing involved--tie fleece blankets make low-stress presents for a new baby. Because you make the blanket yourself, you can choose the perfect colors to match any room decor or theme. There is one thing to keep in mind: although you can tie the blanket on all four sides as most blankets are shown, you might want to opt for one sewn side for a baby's blanket. Baby's can inhale the fringe used for the blankets if it is cut too small. The sewn side provides a safe side to rest under the baby's chin.
Things You'll Need
- 2 pieces of fleece, 1 1/2 yards each
- Scissors
- Sewing machine with thread
- Ruler

1
Trim the edges of the fleece pieces with a pair of scissors. Remove any frayed or selvage edges.
-
2
Lay the first piece of fleece down onto a flat surface. If the fleece is patterned, keep the patterned-side facing up. Lay the second piece of fleece directly on top of the first piece. If the second fleece piece is patterned, keep the patterned-side facing down.

3
Cut a 4-inch square out of all four corners using a ruler and your scissors.
-
4
Run a simple stitch through one side of the blanket using a sewing machine. The stitch should be 1/2 inch from the edge of the blanket. Flip the blanket right side out. Any patterned sides should now be on the outside of the blanket.
-
5
Cut through both fleece pieces with your scissors to make the fringe on the 3 unstitched sides. The fringe should be cut 4 inches long and 1 inch apart.
-
6
Start on one side of the blanket. Tie the first fringe piece on the top fleece to the first fringe piece on the bottom fleece. Tie the fringe into a double-knot to ensure they are secure. Continue tying the top fleece fringe the corresponding bottom piece fringe. Do this until the entire side is tied together.
-
7
Tie the fringe on the two remaining sides of the blanket. When using, the stitched side of the fleece blanket should be the only side near the baby's face.
