      Turn off the power to the furnace.

      Locate the filter housing on the furnace. Unscrew the filter cover if necessary and lift it off. Slide the filter out of its housing.

      Vacuum any dust from both sides of the filter with the hose attachment.

      Rinse plastic or metal furnace filters outside with a garden hose or in a utility tub. Direct the water through the airflow side until it runs clear.

      Allow the filter to air dry completely before replacing it and turning the furnace's power back on.
