Check the air gap for clogs, if equipped. The air gap is located on the sink next to the faucet. Lift the cover off the air gap. Remove any debris or foreign material. Replace the cover.

Clear the garbage disposer, if one is connected to the dishwasher. Run the garbage disposer until it is completely clear.

Make sure the plug was removed from the garbage disposer inlet. Garbage disposers with dishwasher inlets are capped with a plug when they are new.

Check the drain hose for kinks or clogs. Straighten the house out. Remove any blockage.

Make sure the dishwasher door is completely latched. A slightly open door will allow water to leak from the machine.

Check the kitchen sink for proper drainage. If the kitchen sink is not properly draining, it may be necessary to contact a plumber to repair it.
