How to Draw a Monster
You can draw a monster that represents thorough consideration of the creature's survival, locomotion, and adaptation to its surroundings to create a fully realized fantasy character. Drawings of monsters are often used to illustrate a writer's description of an imaginary beast. Imagining a storyline and setting for a new custom monster will lead you to make a creature that fits the scene. Imagine and draw a monster with characteristics that make it perfect for the world it is intended to inhabit.

1
Make a list of words and terms that describe the environment where the creature will live. Consider whether the monster you will be drawing is a full-time land dweller or needs to have abilities to fly in the air or live under water.
-
2
Add descriptions of the monster's imagined food sources and prey. The way a monster attacks and eats are key to its survival in the imagined world.
-
-
3
Create a list of available options and adaptations that would help the monster thrive in the environment and keep its place in the food chain. Claws, fangs, projectiles, wings, fins, legs and armor are all commonly found features in monster drawings.
-
4
Select and combine monster features from the list to create a monster concept description that takes into account all the factors of movement and survival. Read the description and allow your imagination to create an image of the monster inside your mind.
-
5
Draft the imagined creature in pencil using the description as a guide to make sure you include all the planned features. Take your time and erase and redraw any parts you are not pleased with.
-
6
Trace the final lines of the monster drawing with an ink pen to give it a finished look. Name the monster creatively to add personality.
