Dive from the side of the pool and enter the water hands first for a deep dive.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Stand at poolside, with your knees bent and your toes gripping the edge of the pool.

  2. Step 2

Tuck your chin to your chest and extend your arms in front of you. Your shoulders will be almost against your ears.

  3. Step 3

Lean and reach forward with your hands, trying to touch the water.

  4. Step 4

Push forward with your legs, keeping your head down. When you push forward, your legs will naturally straighten out.

  5. Step 5

Enter the water at a steep angle, hands first, and allow your body to straighten out.

  6. Step 6

Keep your body straight until you are entirely underwater.

  7. Step 7

Return to the surface by turning your hands and head upward.

Tips & Warnings
  • The steeper the angle at which you enter the water, the deeper you will dive.
  • Practice pushing off harder with your legs to put some spring into your motion.
  • Try slowly exhaling through your nostrils as you dive to keep water out of your nose.
  • The water you dive into should be at least 7 feet deep. Never do a deep dive in shallow water or water whose depth you do not know.
  • If you have any condition that would impair or limit your ability to engage in physical activity, please consult a physician before attempting this activity. This information is not intended as a substitute for professional medical advice or treatment.
