Think about how much money you are willing to spend on software. Use an Internet search engine to research programs that cater to your specific design needs. Consider using Google SketchUp if you want a free program and are proficient with 3D design. Consider buying programs from Punch Software that range from $9.99 to $499.99 depending on needs.

Install the program onto your computer. Insert the disk into your computer's disk drive and wait for on-screen instructions. Choose to run the program from your computer's Start menu if it does not automatically load. Familiarize yourself with all functions and gadgets associated with the program. If you choose a free program like Google SketchUp, download it from the Google SketchUp website. Play around with design features to get a feel for what you are doing.
