Lockpick guns open most household locks.

Lockpick guns take much of the fine, skilled work out of picking household locks, making them useful implements if you or a neighbor locks yourself out of the house. These tools are also useful for gaining access to a friend or family member's residence in an emergency when keys are not available. While it is false that a lockpick gun requires no other lockpicking tools and that they open all locks, the lockpick gun makes picking household locks much easier. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Push the tension wrench into the bottom of the lock's key opening. This should not require any real force, so if you cannot fit the tension wrench into place, the one you are using is too big. Chose a smaller tension wrench from your lockpicking kit.

    • 2

Turn the tension wrench clockwise until it exerts just a little pressure on the lock.

    • 3

Insert the prong of the lockpick gun into the lock so that it is near, but not in contact with the top of the lock opening. This places it in proximity, but not in contact with the pins inside the lock.

    • 4

Pull the trigger on the lock pick gun. You may need to pull the trigger several times to unlock the lock, but be patient and keep pulling the trigger.

Tips & Warnings

  • Practice using your lockpick gun only on disposable locks, such as cheap padlocks. Lockpick guns will gradually damage a lock's mechanisms if used repeatedly on the same lock.

  • Lockpick guns only work on lock designs with pins. Other lock designs, such as the wafer tumbler locks used in car starters, are immune to the lockpick gun.
