How to Tighten a Sewing Machine Foot Pedal

A sewing machine foot pedal is the device that helps you control the speed at which you sew. In fact, the foot pedal controls the electricity that is sent to your sewing machine. It plugs into the sewing machine, usually along side the plug to an outlet, unless you have a very old sewing machine. The harder you press down on the foot pedal, the faster your machine sews. If your sewing machine's foot pedal is loose, you may be able to tighten it.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off your sewing machine and unplug if from the wall outlet. Unplug your foot pedal from the sewing machine, if possible.

    • 2

Look at the foot pedal. If there is a screw in your foot pedal, you can get inside of it and tighten it. If there is no screw, you cannot tighten the foot pedal.

    • 3

Unscrew the foot pedal's top pressure foot from the bottom of the foot pedal. Open the foot pedal.

Use a screwdriver to tighten the screws at the base of the bottom part of the foot pedal on the inside that control the pressure. If there are no screws, you may have to snap the metal resistance bar back into place in the topside of the foot pedal.
