How to Incorporate a Blog Into a Website

How to Incorporate a Blog Into a Website thumbnail
Add consistent blog posts to a website for fresh content.

Incorporate a blog into your website to give your site a fresh, updated feel. Unlike websites that are rarely updated, blogs are updated weekly, daily or even several times throughout the day. Blogs allows you to create and upload content easily, without using FTP, enabling you to create posts from anywhere you have an internet connection. Encourage website users to visit your site often by creating frequent blog posts.

Instructions

    • 1

Plan your blog in detail before integrating it into your website. Choose a blog platform that is easy to maintain. Select someone familiar with your website content who will be responsible for consistent blog posting. While a blog with frequent posts gives the impression that your website content is up-to-date, a blog with sporadic posts gives the impression your website lacks consistency.

    • 2

Choose a blog URL within your main website domain that is easy to remember. Good options for blog URLs include blog.companydomainname.com or companydomainname.com/blog.

    • 3

Choose a design for your blog that matches the design of your website for consistent branding. If you are creating a blog for a small company or a personal website and do not have time or resources to custom-create an identical blog background, choose a ready-made blog template with colors and fonts similar to your website that allows you to add your own banner and logo.

    • 4

Use a blog voice that matches the voice of your website. For a personal website, create blog posts in first person and write in your own style about personal stories and opinions. For corporate websites, use an authoritative blog voice that talks about new products, large customers and industry trends.

    • 5

Use your blog to give the "inside scoop" to website content. For example, if you are running a sale on a business website, include technical details such as product descriptions, pricing, savings and ordering information on your website. On your blog, write about the popularity of the sale, key customers who have made purchases or future plans to increase the scope of the sale.

    • 6

Add a link called "Blog" that links from your homepage's main menu to your blog. Typically, the "Blog" link should be added to the top or left-hand side menu bars. If your blog will play a minor role to your website content, then adding a link to the menu on the bottom of the homepage will suffice.

    • 7

List blog headlines on your homepage that link to your most-recent posts. If the blog plays an integral role in your website, add blog headlines to the top of the website right under your website logo, banner and menu. If the blog will play a minor role in your website, add headlines to the bottom of the homepage or just leave headlines out completely.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you are unable to keep up with consistent blog posting, remove the link from your homepage so as not to distract from the rest of your website content.
