How to Make a Two-Sided Brochure

Whether you're writing instructions on how to install a new product, advertising a new poker club or informing medical office patients of new procedures available, a quick and portable way to accomplish these things is to make a brochure. Brochures are usually single-page, double-sided pieces of paper, tri-folded with text and images. There's no need to send out for a graphic designer and pay hefty artwork fees when you can make your own brochure within minutes using a desktop publishing program.

Instructions

    • 1

Open a desktop publishing program, click "Publications for Print" or something similar and select "Brochures." Scroll through the design options and double-click one that you think would most work for your requirements. Don't worry about the colors and text, you'll be changing those. The brochure opens in your workspace.

    • 2

Look down toward the bottom of the screen and notice there are two page icons; the brochure is double-sided, so click through both pages and review the placeholder text and designs.

    • 3

Right-click a placeholder graphic and select "Change Picture" or "Insert." Browse to a photo on your computer. Double-click the file name and the photo appears in place on the brochure. Click through both pages of the brochure to replace other placeholder images. To delete an image without adding a new picture, click once on the graphic to highlight it and press the "Delete" key.

    • 4

Click inside the placeholder text boxes on the brochure. The entire box becomes highlighted; begin typing brochure information, such as new practice hours, club meeting times or a description of the product you're selling.

    • 5

Click onto a header on the brochure and type your new header directly on top of the placeholder text. Highlight your new words, then use the text toolbar at the top of the page to change the font, size and color.

    • 6

Replace the placeholder business contact information with your own. If applicable, include information about your organization's hours of operation, emergency contact information, website and email address. To remove the contact information boxes completely, click once on a box and press the "Delete" key.

    • 7

Click the "Color Schemes" link on the "Brochure Options" panel. Scroll through the color sets and double-click one that matches your usual color in the office or your preferences; your brochure is automatically updated with the new colors.

Tips & Warnings

  • Desktop publishing programs like Microsoft Publisher and Adobe InDesign are available to help you make two-sided brochures within minutes. Each comes with pre-set designs and each is available for a free trial download. You may already have Publisher as part of your Microsoft Office Suite installation. InDesign is part of Adobe's Creative Suite.

  • You can use word processing programs such as Microsoft Word (included with the Office Suite) to make two-sided brochures, but because the software is intended more for words, it doesn't allow for as precise placement of images and text, and will be less user-friendly when setting up the brochure.
