How to Put Music Videos on an MP4 Player

Getting your videos onto your MP4 player can be difficult.

With the introduction of MP4, also known as MPEG-4, players, the world of music videos is growing smaller and smaller. Unfortunately, the process of getting the videos you want to watch onto the player on which you want to watch them can be difficult. Some video files appear to transfer easily onto an MP4 player, while some files refuse to transfer altogether. The trick is to know the format your player requires for videos and how to ensure all your videos fit that requirement. The name "MP4 player" can be misleading because not all so-called MP4 players can actually play files in the MP4 format. In fact, most play .dmv- or .avi-formatted files.

Determine Format

1. 

   Checking the format of your files is key.

   Determine the video file format your MP4 player requires. Check the product manual for this information.

2. Find the format of the video file you want to watch on your MP4 player. A file's format can be found by looking at the end of its file name. For example, "sillycat.mp4" is an MP4 file, and "funnydog.avi" is an avi file.

3. Decide whether or not you need to convert your video file. If your file is the same format as that required by your player, it should be playable. If it is a different format, it needs to be converted.

Convert Files

1. Find a video file conversion program. Open your favorite search engine and type this into its search box: "convert [file to convert from] to [file to convert to] [brand of computer you use]." For instance, typing "convert mp4 to dmv PC" should provide you with websites of many converters fitting that criteria.

2. 

   Beware of suspicious websites.

   Download a suitable format conversion program.

3. Install the program. Follow the instructions provided by the converter's website.

4. Convert the file. To do this, follow the converter program's instructions.

Watch Videos

1. Add your newly converted files to your MP4 player. Click "File" and "Add.." to do this on most media player programs.

2. Plug your MP4 player into your computer. The player should come with a USB cord for this purpose.

3. 

   MP4 players allow you to watch videos anywhere.

   Synchronize your MP4 player with your media player library.
