How to Create Band Banners
Bands use banners as part of their set to set the mood for their concert. Venues display large banners outside of their doors and along streets to announce concerts for popular bands. A band banner can display the name of the band, the title of their latest album, album artwork, the band's logo, or any number of endless possibilities. A banner can become to be a signature of the band, visible at every concert. Therefore, it is important to carefully design the banner to achieve the desired effect.

- Sketch pad
- Pencil
- Computer
- Design software
- CD or media card
- Print shop capable of banner printing

Sketch out several ideas for the band banner on a sketch pad using a pencil. Create several different designs. Decide which design you would like best. Sketch several variations of this design. Choose the design that you would like for the banner. Consider that the banner will need to be readable at a distance. Large bold graphics are ideal for banners.

Turn on a computer and open up a design program that is capable of designing banners. Set the dimensions and resolution of the document. A standard resolution for printing is 300 pixels. Verify the necessary specifications for the document with the print shop that you will have print the band banner. Consider the color pallet of the banner carefully. Choose colors that will stand out at a distance and under various lighting conditions.

Save the document in a file format that was specified by the print shop. Export the document to a media card or CD. Bring the media card or CD to the print shop.

Ask the print shop to see a proof of the banner prior to the actual printing. Most print shops will do this for free, however some may charge a nominal fee. Colors may vary because of your monitor settings. It is always a good idea to carefully review a proof. Approve the proof and wait for the banner to be printed. Turnaround varies from print shop to print shop. Plan enough time in advance to allow time for printing.

Tips & Warnings
Design a few different sized banners to have printed. The banner should fit the scale of the venue that the band will perform. A large banner in a small venue will appear overwhelming, while a small banner in larger venue will not be noticed.
Be sure that you have carefully checked your proofs prior to approval. Most print shops will not refund your money once you have given approval.
