Block access to a specific website.

If you have small children in your house who use a computer, you may want to consider blocking certain Web sites so they do not visit them. These sites could be inappropriate for young kids or be time-wasters. It takes about a minute to block a Web site.

Instructions

    • 1

Press your "Windows" key and your "R" key simultaneously on your keyboard. The "Run" utility will appear.

    • 2

Type "notepad c:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts" in the field and hit the "Enter" key on your keyboard. A "Notepad" file will appear.

    • 3

Go to the bottom of the "Notepad" file where the text has ended. Put your cursor on an empty line below the last line of text and type "127.0.0.1 (Website address)." For instance, if the Web site that you are attempting to block is Facebook, type "127.0.0.1 www.facebook.com" at the bottom of the "Notepad" file.

    • 4

Close the file and, when prompted, save it.
