Giving glycerin to a sheep can improve its health.

If you are preparing to show a sheep at a fair or other exhibition, chances are you have put a lot of time and hard work into your show animal. You will want your sheep to be in the greatest health possible. Glycerin has been shown to have benefits to sheep when used carefully. It works as an antiseptic and detoxifies the system. Instructions

  1. Force Feeding

    • 1

Grasp the sheep firmly by the head.

    • 2

Pour a teaspoon of glycerin into a plastic spoon.

    • 3

      Force the sheep's mouth open.

    • 4

Flip the spoon upside down and spread the contents over the sheep's tongue.

    • 5

Hold the sheep's mouth closed and allow it to swallow.

    Mixing with Grain

    • 6

Measure out about a cupful of grain.

    • 7

Pour the grain into a plastic sandwich bag.

    • 8

Pour in a tablespoon of glycerin.

    • 9

Shake the bag vigorously until the grain is well-coated.

    • 10

Mix the glycerin-grain mix with the sheep's normal portion of food during feeding time. You will want to feed the sheep separately from others if you don't want other sheep eating the glycerin-mixed food.

    Mixing with Water

    • 11

Add a teaspoon of glycerin to your sheep's water trough. Only do this if you can keep the affected sheep separate from the others.

    • 12

Stir the water until the glycerin is well mixed in.

    • 13

Change the water daily and repeat steps one and two until the sheep is better.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use the force-feeding method when you need quick results. If you are not in a hurry, it is best to try to let the sheep take the glycerin on its own through grain or water.

  • When working with sheep, you may find it helpful to have another person on hand to assist you if necessary.

  • Giving too much glycerin to a sheep can be bad for it. Only administer glycerin when needed and until the sheep begins improving.
