Wiring money directly from one bank account to another bank account is a secure and convenient way of transferring a large amount of money. Basically, you initiate the transaction from your own bank (where you have an account), and your bank transfers the money to the receiving bank in Europe. Gather information about the recipient’s bank account in the receiving bank in Europe. This information should include the full name and the address of the bank account holder (as it appears on the bank statement), account number, bank’s routing number, IBAN, and BIC of the receiving bank. IBAN (International Bank Account Number) is a particular number associated with each bank account in Europe. This number is necessary for making an international transfer. According to European Banking Resources, the only direct source for finding out an IBAN is by contacting the receiving bank yourself. BIC (Bank Identifier Code) can also be determined from the bank.

Make sure that your bank account has the funds needed to be transferred. You can get information about the wire transfer fee from your bank.

Visit your bank and tell the bank representative that you want to wire money to Europe.

Fill out the wire-transfer form in the bank. This form will ask for your own bank account information, the amount you want to transfer and all information you obtained in Step 1.

Give the form back to the bank representative and ask him when the funds will arrive in the receiving bank account in Europe.

Contact the recipient after the stated time passes and confirm that the money has arrived. If there is some delay, you can track the progress of the transfer by contacting your bank. To do so, you must have the receipt that the bank recipient gave upon completing the transaction.

In sending a wire transfer from the Netherlands to the U.S., a "fluctuation" charge of several thousand dollars was assessed, which they refused to take out of my bank account from which the funds were being wired, even though there was oodles of money in the account. They wanted money went from me, in the U.S., to the bank (ING Direct). Is this bizarre? I refused to pay it, told them to take it our of my account at ING. How is this supposed to work?
