Eliminate cockroaches safely with baking soda

Many television shows and movies portray cockroach-infested homes as being filthy and unkept. This is not always the case. A home that appears clean and orderly on the outside can have a roach problem behind the walls that the owner is not aware of until it is too late. Baking soda can be used to effectively and safely kill the roaches. The baking soda will create a chemical reaction in the roach's stomach that will cause the roach to explode. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Fill a small, shallow bowl with one-half cup baking soda and one-half cup sugar. The sugar will attract the cockroaches to the baking soda.

    • 2

Fill another shallow bowl with water. The water will also act as bait for the roaches.

    • 3

Place the bowls behind a refrigerator, under an appliance or inside a closet. These darker, hidden spaces are areas that roaches tend to frequent.

    • 4

Refill the contents of both bowls once there is a collection of dead roaches around each. Pick up the dead roaches with gloved hands and dispose of them in a garbage can. This method is safer than pesticides but it may take several weeks before the cockroach problem is visibly lessened.

Tips & Warnings

  • A few ounces of powdered yeast can be used as a substitute for the baking soda. It will cause the same reaction in the roach's digestive tract.

  • Place several pairs of bait bowls around the home to eliminate even larger amounts of roaches in a shorter amount of time.
