How to Setup a Ventrilo Server
Ventrilo is widely used voice communication application, especially by gamers. Ventrilo requires two separate pieces of software, clients and a server. Ventrilo clients all connect to a Ventrilo sever and communicate through it. Set up your own Ventrilo Server that Ventrilo clients can connect to by downloading the installer from Ventrilo.

Install Ventrilo Server

Download the Ventrilo Server installer from Ventrilo (see Resources) Click "Windows i386 - 32bit" under "Server Programs" on the Ventrilo Download page, click "I Agree" on the next page, then click "Save" in your web browser.

Open the Ventrilo Server installer by double-clicking it on your computer.

Click "Next" in the "Welcome" window.

Click "I Agree" in the "License Agreement" window, then click "Next."

Click "Next" in the "User Information" window.

Install Ventrilo Server to the default location by clicking "Next" in the "Destination Folder" window.

Click "Next" in the "Ready to Install the Application" window.

Finish the installation by clicking "Finish" when prompted.
Configure Ventrilo Server

Open the configuration file by clicking "Start," "All Programs," "VentSrv," then "Edit INI File."

Set the server name by typing it after "Name=." For example, name your server "MyServer" by typing "Name=MyServer."

Set the server authentication mode. Allow anyone to connect by typing "Auth=0," require a single password by typing "Auth=1" or require per-user passwords by typing "Auth=2."

Set an administrator password by typing it after "AdminPassword," if desired. Disable remote administrator log in by leaving this blank.

Set the single log in password required for "Auth=1" by typing it after "Password=."
Start Ventrilo Server

Start the Ventrilo server by clicking by clicking "Start," "All Programs," "VentSrv," then "Ventrilo Server."

Install Ventrilo as a system service that starts and runs in the background every time your computer boots by clicking "Start," "All Programs," "VentSrv," "Service," then "Install."

Uninstall Ventrilo as a system service so it won't run every time your computer boots by clicking "Start," "All Programs," "VentSrv," "Service," then "Uninstall."
