How to Install Software for an HP 420i DVD Reader & Writer
Unless your Hewlett-Packard desktop and laptop computer is running a high definition system, the horizontal screen resolution is going to be anywhere from 480 to 420. A 420i means the image is interlaced (each video frame is made up of two interlaced sections where half of the lines of resolution appear once, quickly followed by the other lines and when flashed rapidly it looks like a full picture). Just about all DVD burning programs support standard definition DVD creation, so you are not going to have a problem installing a new DVD program onto your computer.

1
Check the labeling of the DVD burning software. If it does not say "High Definition" on the packaging you know it is used for SD DVD videos.
-
2
Insert the software installation CD into the disc drive of the computer. Momentarily the software installation wizard appears on the screen.

-
3
Click "Next" when the welcome page appears (it gives an overview of the program), then accept the license agreement.
-
4
Click "Next" for the installation name and location. You do not want to change these settings as doing so may result in the computer being unable to detect the programs.
-
5
Select "Install" and the DVD program installs onto the Hewlett Packard 420i computer.
